A CAR with a child inside was stolen during a frightening theft in a Scots town.
The incident happened in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, yesterday afternoon.
A silver BMW 218D was parked in the town’s Union Street when it was nicked around 4.15pm.
The driver of the vehicle, the mother of the child, left the motor for a few minutes.
But when she returned it was nowhere to be seen.
A short time later the car was driven back to the spot where it had been parked.
A young male, believed to be 17 to 20 years old, was spotted exiting the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Afterwards, the child was found safe and well in the back of the car.
The thief has been described as white, of slim build, around 5ft 9ins tall.
He was wearing a dark top with the hood up and dark bottoms.
Police are appealing for witnesses and officers are particularly interested in speaking to two older women who were sitting on a bench nearby when the incident unfolded.
Inspector Jim Mutter said: “Fortunately the child was not harmed but this was an extremely upsetting experience for the mother and our enquiries are ongoing to trace the youth who was seen driving and exiting the car.
“We are asking anyone in the area at the time to check private CCTV and dash-cam to see if they have captured anything that could assist us.
“We are also particularly keen to speak to two older women who were sitting on a bench nearby as they may have vital information that could assist with our enquiries.”
