Desperate hunt for missing French tourist who vanished from Scots campsite

A FRENCH hiker has gone missing after failing to return to his Highland campsite. 

Cops are pleading for help to trace Francois Remodeau who has been reported missing in the Invergarry area.

Francois, understood to be in his mid-60s, was last seen around 8pm on Sunday, 12 May.

He has failed to return to his tent on a campsite in the Faichem Road area and concerns are growing for his welfare.

Police say he speaks good English and is described as of medium build with receding grey hair.

When last seen he was wearing dark outdoor clothing and he may be carrying a blue rucksack.

​His last public post on Facebook was made two weeks before he was last seen.

He wrote: “Marcher et dormir dans les Highlands. De Durness à Inchnadamph” which translates as “Walking and sleeping in the Highlands. From Durness to Inchnadamph.”

The retired teacher is an experieced rambler and cops have confirmed they have launched an appeal.

Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “Concerns are growing for Francois and we need to make sure he is safe and well.

“We do not know which direction Francois took but he may have sought shelter in a bothy or been heading in the direction of Fort Augustus.”
