RANGERS have called on Celtic to work alongside the police to find the culprits who threw missiles at James Tavernier during yesterday’s derby at Parkhead.
The Ibrox skipper had to dodge a number of objects as he went to take a corner in the match that Brendan Rodgers’ side won 2-1 to all but seal the title.

Tavernier stopped play to hand over some of the items – with one thought to have been a “marijuana grinder” – to referee Willie Collum.
Police Scotland said that three people had been arrested during the game “in connection with acts of disorder” and added: “We are aware of items thrown during the match at Parkhead on Saturday, 11 May, 2024. Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.”
Now Rangers have called upon the cops and Celtic to work together to identity and punish those involved, after suggesting that Tavernier could have been severely injured in the incident.
A club spokesperson said: “Not for the first time at Parkhead, a Rangers player was targeted with several missiles, and is extremely lucky not to have left the stadium with a serious injury.
“Rangers have raised the matter with Celtic, and we expect them to assist Police Scotland with their enquiries, which we understand have begun.”
The incident mirrors similar scenes at Ibrox in the previous derby when a number of items were thrown from the stands in the direction of Celtic players and staff.
The Parkhead club made a complaint to the police last month after coins, bottles and other objects were thrown at assistant manager John Kennedy and others.
A Celtic spokesperson said at the time: “It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt O’Riley at yesterday’s match.
“The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.
“We have already raised our serious concerns with Rangers and understand that police are investigating the matter.”
No Rangers supporters were present at yesterday’s derby as has been the case for several years.
That trend is set to come to an end next season with the clubs granting each other a five percent allocation for travelling fans.
