Emergency crews raced to the scene near Clachan, south of Tarbert, after the alarm was raised around 12.05pm.

But the pensioner, known to his family and friends as ‘Chris’, was unable to be saved.

Christopher was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other vehicles involved in the fatal smash.

Cops closed the busy west coast route for hours to allow crash investigators to carry out enquiries.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the road smash.

Police are appealing for anyone with information that could assist with the probe to get in touch.

They are particularly keen to speak with anyone with dashcam footage who was in the area around the time of the crash.

Sergeant Archie McGuire said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1392 of 9 May 2024.
