AN ex-Celtic scout who was jailed for sexually abusing four young players has died in custody.
Kenneth Divers, 80, was jailed for five years in June 2023 for abusing schoolboys when he was a teacher and football coach at two Paisley high schools.
He fled to Vietnam as cops probed the historical abuse allegations and was extradited to the UK to face trial.
It later emerged that he planned to adopt a 14-year-old Vietnamese boy before being snared for his childsex crimes.
The Scottish Prison Service has since confirmed he died aged 80 at HMP Low Moss on Sunday, February 2.
He was found guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court of preying on four boys over a 24-year period between 1968 and 1992.
As well as working as a teacher in schools in Glasgow and Paisley he was also a football scout for Celtic.
The beast targeted lads as young as ten years old, subjecting them to vile sex attacks.
He preyed on one boy aged between 11 and 13 at locations across the west of Scotland between August 1, 1968 and June 9, 1970.
A second lad was aged between 12 and 16 when he was targeted at properties between August 1, 1971, and May 31, 1975.
While two other boys were exploited in incidents from August 1984 to December 1992 in schools in Glasgow and Paisley.
One of his victims previously said of his harrowing court testimony: “I didn’t want a screen up because I wanted to see him and stare him out.
“But he was already staring at me before a word had been said.
“I just thought, ‘You cheeky b*’.
“I think he is in denial. People like him think they haven’t done anything wrong.”
Divers told the Court his victims were lying, but he was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to five years.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service told the Daily Record: “Kenneth Divers, 80, of HMP Low Moss, has died on February 2. The matter will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
