The serious assault happened on Bath Street, in Portobello, at around 6.40pm.

The teen was blue-lighted by ambulance to the city’s Royal Infirmary for emergency treatment.

Medics have described his injuries as serious but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have now launched a manhunt to find the three men involved in the incident.

Two of the suspects have been described as being tall and of a slim build while the third is described as being of stocky build with blonde hair.

All the men were said to be wearing dark clothing and black balaclavas while riding dark-coloured e-bikes.

Officers have said that they believe that the incident was a targeted attack.

However, the force confirmed that a police presence will remain in the area over the coming days.

Cops are also appealing to the public for help with their ongoing enquiries.

They have urged anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack to contact police.

They have also called for anyone who has heard anything suspicious or knows the suspects to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Dougal Begg said: “We are continuing our enquiries to establish the full circumstances and a police presence will remain in the area.

“We believe this was a targeted attack and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have information which could assist to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cam or private CCTV footage to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2687 of Friday, 10 January 2025.
