SCOTS drivers are facing Hogmanay chaos as a busy Scots road was left completely blocked due to a landslide.

The A832 Fortrose to Avoch in Black Isle has been shut down after a mudslide hit both sides of the road.

It comes as the country is battered by torrential downpours, with many roads and rail routes closed.

The north of the country remains in the grip of an amber alert for rain until 5pm, which has resulted in extensive flooding.

Dramatic images taken from the A832 show mud covering both lanes of the road.

Another snap shows a huge tree blown across the country carriageway.

One driver took to social media to urge others to be cautious amid the treacherous conditions.

They wrote: “Just a heads up to anyone trying to leave Fortrose.

“This morning the road between Avoch and Fortrose is blocked off completely.

“There’s been a mudslide and a huge tree down covering the whole road. This was taken at 8:35am. Be safe.”

Police Scotland said: “The A832 Fortrose to Avoch in Black Isle is currently closed.

“Police Scotland received reports of a landslide at 8.30am on Tuesday, 31 December, affecting both sides of the road.

“The road is likely to remain closed for some time. Motorists should plan ahead and follow diversions.”

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued 10 regional Flood Alerts and 41 local Flood Warnings, with widespread flooding across north and central Scotland.

River levels will remain high today and tomorrow along the Spey, Tay, Ness, Forth and Teith.

Yesterday, Edinburgh’s New Year’s Eve street party was axed amid the storm chaos leaving 50,000 revellers gutted.

Organisers said they cancelled all events over public safety fears – including a headline show under the castle by Texas.

An Edinburgh’s Hogmanay spokesperson said: “Due to ongoing high winds and inclement weather in Edinburgh city centre, we regret to announce that outdoor events scheduled for tonight and December 31 are unable to go ahead on the grounds of public safety.”

Police Scotland has urged Scots not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Superintendent Jennifer Valentine said: “Following significant and continuing rainfall across the Highlands and Moray, we are dealing with challenging weather conditions, as well as rising river levels, and are asking people to take care.

“We are working hard with a range of multi-agency partners to support communities and those who need our help.”
