Meanwhile two images, appearing to show assault-rifle style guns, circulated on social media.

Cops today confirmed a 14-year-old male youngster had been arrested.

A probe has been launched “to establish the full circumstances”.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Nicola Devine wrote: “Earlier today, Thursday 28 November 2024, we were informed of an allegation suggesting a threat towards pupils and teachers on Friday 29 November.

“Swift and appropriate action was taken, including contacting Inverclyde Council and referring the matter to police who are now investigating.

“We cannot go into any more detail due to the live police investigation.

“However, we are satisfied that the matter has been dealt with thoroughly and that all appropriate action is being taken.

“We therefore look forward to welcoming all staff and pupils to our school community tomorrow, Friday 29 November 2024, as normal.

“Please be assured that the health and safety of everyone in our school is paramount and we continue to prioritise this above all other school matters.”

Parents with questions are urged to contact the head teacher directly.

Chief Inspector David Doherty, Area Commander for Inverclyde, said: “Around 3.40pm on Thursday, 28 November we received a report of threatening communications.

“A 14-year-old male youth has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
