The alarm was raised at around 2am on September 26 after officers received reports of a concern for a man.

Emergency crews raced to Bankton Lane in Livingston, West Lothian, however, a 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force previously confirmed that the death is being treated as “unexplained” as they locked down surrounding streets and footpaths.

But four days on from the tragedy, police are still guarding the quiet lane as they carry out further enquiries.

Cops have confirmed that there will be a heavy police presence on Bankton Lane, Bankton Glade and the surrounding footpaths.

The force also said that a post-mortem examination has also been carried out.

And they are now investigating whether or not there has been any criminality surrounding the circumstances of the man’s death.

Police have urged anyone with any information about the man’s death to come forward and speak with officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Pleasance said: “It is vital we get the correct answers for the man’s family and officers are continuing to carry out thorough enquiries to do this.

“The family continue to be supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

“We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with concerns or questions is encouraged to approach these officers.

“We are also asking that anyone who saw or heard something unusual between midnight and 2am in the Bankton Lane area to contact us as soon as possible.

“If you have private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which might have captured anything, we ask that you check this to assist in our enquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0278 of 26 September.”
